Cutting For Stone – Abraham Verghese

Cutting For StoneThis is the real deal folks – a fantastic page-turner about twin brothers growing up in Ethiopia born of an English father who is a surgeon and an Indian nun.  Both brothers go into medicine themselves, one “good” one “bad;” enduring love and betrayal in the vividly drawn setting of a country on the brink of revolution. The author is a doctor himself lending the medical scenes visceral authenticity.  There is a nifty twist at the end which only adds to the perfection of this slice-of-life medical drama.
